 6th Annual Walk-A-Thon!
 

We are excited to continue the tradition of hosting a

Walk-A-Thon as our primary fundraiser for the PTA.

 

This fundraiser funds all of our programming and allows

us to host many fun events for our students and staff! 

 

Snack days, Apple Crunch Day, Hot Chocolate Cafe,

Movie Night, the Spelling Bee, activity periods,

the 8th Grade Dance and Picnic,

and the 6th & 7th Grade Celebration are some

of the students' favorites.  

 

The Walk-A-Thon will be held on

Monday, October 5th during the school day.

 

Each grade will get to walk the track for 30 minutes.  

At the end of the day, all students will gather in the stadium for some other fun events and the ending ceremonies!! Prizes will be announced during this time. 

 

To be eligible for prizes, donations must be received

by 6PM on Wednesday, September 30th.

 

 How to Signup and Donate
 

All pledges are flat donations.

 

You will sponsor a student with a flat donation regardless of how far they walk. 

 

Family and friends are welcome to donate as well!

 

For our Walk-A-Thon this year, we're using a web based fundraising system called Pledgestar that makes it much easier for you to request pledges from your family and friends, and for them to make secure credit card donations online. It's fun, it's easy, and people who use it typically raise twice as much as those who don't! Using your computer's browser to register your student:

  • Go to http://ptms.pledgestar.com/
  • Click "Not Registered For This Year's Event"
  • Enter your name (parent) and email address (parent), then click "Submit." 
  • Follow the instructions on-screen to register your student Walker(s) and add family and friends contact information.

When you finish, the system emails pledge requests to your family and friends, and allows them to make secure credit card donations online. You get notified each time a pledge is made, and you can track your pledge progress online.  To be eligible for prizes, donations must be received by 6PM on Wednesday, September 30th.

 Student Participation

 

Penny Wars

Another fun way to generate excitement for the Walk-A-Thon is through Penny Wars!

Penny Wars happens during lunch in the week leading up to Walk-A-Thon.

Students compete as a grade against one another.

Students bring bills and pennies to add to their grade level bucket.

Silver coins deduct from the total, so they want to put silver coins in the other grade level buckets.

The money is counted each night and the results are shared daily in the cafeteria.

The winning grade wins a homework pass.

 

Raffle Baskets

Students will automatically receive one chance to win the grade level raffle basket for every donation made online.

Additional opportunities to win the grade level baskets can be purchased for $1 during lunch in the week leading up to Walk-A-Thon.

 

Penny Wars and the sale of raffle tickets will occur during lunch periods from September 24 - September 30.

 

Additional Event Activities

  

Relay Races

 Teachers will coach/coordinate student relay teams.

We are hoping to have 8 teams per grade with four students on each team. 

Teams will compete in a 4x100 meter relay race against other teams in their grade.

The winning team from each grade will race against each other and a team of teachers.

Team prizes will be awarded for the fastest team, the team with the most spirit, and one team randomly drawn in a raffle!

   

Suprise Race

There is a surprise race at the end of the day for all students to enjoy!

 

 

Awards and Prizes

     

We have many prizes and incentives throughout our Walk-A-Thon:
  • Special Raffle: Thanks to a generous anonymous donor, we are able to raffle 4 tickets to the November 14 Pittsburgh Penguins game. The seats are Section 111, seats 5-8 in the Michelob Ultra Club. This prize includes a parking pass and Lexus Club access. The value of this prize is $900.       How to earn entries for this raffle: Students get one entry for every $50 in donations and two entries for signing up to be a student runner during the Walk-A-Thon pep rally.
  • Top fundraising student in each grade gets a gift card
  • The top 15 fundraisers per grade will get a special lunch. Minimum donation of $60 to qualify. (A $60 donation does not guarantee a top 15 finish though.)
  • Top fundraising grade receives an outdoor study lab
  • Grade winning Penny Wars earns a homework pass
  • Three Raffle Baskets - Students can purchase raffle tickets for $1/each during lunch periods from 9/24 - 9/30. The winner of each basket will be pulled during the Walk-A-Thon on 10/2.
  • Each student on the three final relay teams between grades receives a prize.
  • Most spirited/Best theme team in the Walk-A-Thon races wins a prize.
  • Biggest heart team in the Walk-A-Thon wins a prize.
